”Working for the district I had a student that sat outside the counselor's office everyday for weeks until they put him in my class. I created a safe space for him and as a 11th grader I taught him to read when no one else did. His mom had kept him out of school for kindergarten-3rd grade after diagnosing him herself. She had no resources but wanted help for him. This is my why. I know there are a lot of parents like his mom -- screaming for help but don’t know how to ask for it.
